Counseling Services Welcome! The goal of the Counseling Department at Beaver Ridge is to support all students, parents and staff. We accomplish these goals through the following services:
1. Core Classroom Curriculum is based on the Gwinnett County Counselor Standards and Competencies. All students will participate in ten lessons throughout the year based on these competencies. (See Standards link.). We are not “counseling” in the classes; instead, we are providing your children with the resources and strategies to feel their best and do their best.
2. Small Group Counseling is available for students with specific needs. Some of these include: Academic Support, Family Changes, Loss, and Self-Concept groups. Parental permission is requested for small group counseling.
3. Crisis Intervention and Individual Counseling is available to all students on a short-term basis. A referral to see a counselor may be requested by a student, parent, teacher or administrator. We do not provide long-term or regular counseling sessions (we just don't have enough time in the day…but we can refer you to someone who does).
4. Consultation with all teachers and parents is available as needed. Appointments can be scheduled via e-mail or phone call. We also serves on the Student Support Team with the teacher and parents of any student who is experiencing academic, behavioral and/or emotional challenges.
